Abstract

In this article, I argue that Pablo González Casanova was an intellectual who delved into the theory and practice of conceptualizing social reality as a totality. I contend that his intellectual practice constituted an exercise in critical theory, clearly distinguishing it from conventional sciences and orthodox Marxism, while interrogating the social function of critical thought as a form of knowledge within the social division of labor and the class struggle in capitalist society. I provide an analysis of the aforementioned by examining two seldom-read articles: “Sociología y economía” (1955), “Las reformas de estructura en la América Latina (su lógica dentro de la economía de mercado)” (1971), Furthermore, I include references to the texts “Reestructuración de las ciencias sociales: Hacia un nuevo paradigma” (1988), and Chapter 3. “La dialéctica de lo complejo” from the book Las Nuevas ciencias y las Humanidades. De la academia a la política (2017).
